Howard W. Stone, Ph.D.

Howard Stone, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus from Texas Christian University and a long-time resident of Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Stone has published over a dozen books on topics including depression, suicide, grief, counseling, theology, and hope. He has also published more than 50 scholarly articles, edited numerous volumes, and lectured on depression and counseling throughout the U.S In addition he has lectured in the Netherlands, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Norway, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Canada, England, Scotland, Venezuela, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Ireland.

Prior to his 25 years of teaching at Texas Christian University, Dr. Stone was director of a counseling center in Arizona. His awards include the Dean's Teaching Award from Texas Christian University (1993), the Distinguished Research and Creative Activity Award from Brite Divinity School (1997), The Distinguished Alumni Award from Claremont School of Theology (2001), and The Distinguished Service Award from The American Association of Pastoral Counselors (2006).

Dr. Stone suffers from depression himself and uses many of the methods described in his recently published book, Defeating Depression, to manage the symptoms and avoid relapse. His wife of 44 years, Karen Stone, is a retired art teacher, and he has a daughter and two grandchildren.
