Mary Helen Davis, M.D.

Mary Helen Davis, M.D., is currently the Director of Behavioral Oncology at the Norton Cancer Institute, in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine and completed her residency training in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at U of L. She also completed a consult/liaison fellowship and an administrative psychiatry fellowship at Harvard. Dr. Davis spent fifteen years in academic psychiatry, initially on the faculty at Harvard, followed by achieving Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Davis has been active in organized medicine throughout her career, having served as president and in other leadership positions of the Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Association. On the national level, she is currently on the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association, where she has served in other leadership positions as well. She chaired a board work group on the mental health needs of active duty military, veterans and their families, and currently serves as a member of the APA component group on this issue.

Dr. Davis is the recipient of the Harvey St. Clair distinguished service award for her commitment and work in organized psychiatry. She has been active in the Jefferson County Medical Society, where she served on numerous committees and chaired the Legislative Committee and Media Committee. She served on the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and is on the board of the Kentucky Physicians Health Foundation.

Dr. Davis's research interests have been in the study of sexually traumatized women and cognitive behavioral therapy. She has written numerous publications and has presented nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders and group therapy.
